Find out exactly how old you are — down to days, hours and minutes — from your date of birth. Useful for birthdays, official forms, retirement planning and trivia.
An HR administrator must confirm whether a candidate met a minimum-age requirement on the application deadline, not today. Mental arithmetic across a leap year and a birthday that falls two days after the deadline is exactly where mistakes happen.
Entering the birth date and the reference date returns the age in years, months and days, plus the total days elapsed — an auditable answer that can be pasted into the case notes.
The calculation subtracts calendar components rather than dividing a millisecond difference by 365.25 days, which is the standard source of off-by-one errors. Years are differenced first; if the target month/day has not yet occurred, one year is borrowed and converted to months.
Borrowing days uses the actual length of the preceding month, so a 31 January to 1 March span is computed correctly and 29 February in leap years is handled naturally.
Everything is computed from local date values with no timezone shifting, so a birthday never moves by a day depending on where you are.
Date-difference options compared:
| Tool | How it works | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Spreadsheet DATEDIF | Formula returning whole years, months or days. | Powerful but poorly documented, and easy to misuse across month boundaries. |
| Mental maths / phone calendar | Count forward manually. | Leap years and uneven month lengths make errors likely. |
| ToolZone Age Calculator | Exact years, months, days and total days between two dates. | Gregorian calendar only; it does not handle other calendar systems. |
We use real calendar math, so Feb 29 birthdays and leap years are counted correctly down to the day.
Yes — set a target date instead of today to find age at any moment in time.
