Free Diff Checker — Compare Two Texts Online

Paste two versions of any text, code file, contract or config and see exactly which lines were added, removed or changed. A fast alternative to git diff when you just need to compare two snippets — and everything stays in your browser.

Features

How to use

  1. Step 1. Paste the original text on the left.
  2. Step 2. Paste the changed text on the right.
  3. Step 3. Review the highlighted differences below.

Real use case: finding what changed in a contract before signing

A project manager receives "v3 final" of a supplier contract with a note saying only the payment terms changed. Reading fourteen pages twice to verify that claim is not realistic before the meeting.

Pasting v2 and v3 side by side surfaces every difference in seconds: the payment term did change from 30 to 45 days — and so did a liability cap that was not mentioned. The same workflow catches an unannounced edit in a config file or a translated string file.

How Diff Checker works

The comparison uses a longest-common-subsequence algorithm — the same family that powers git diff. It finds the largest set of lines that appear in both texts in the same order, then marks whatever remains as an addition or a deletion, rather than naively comparing line 1 to line 1.

That ordering awareness is what makes an inserted paragraph show as one added block instead of shifting every following line into a false mismatch.

Both texts stay in your browser, which matters when the documents are contracts, credentials or unreleased copy — nothing is uploaded to compare it.

Diff Checker vs similar tools

Diff tooling compared:

ToolHow it worksTrade-off
git diffCompares tracked file versions in a repository.Unbeatable for code, useless for two blobs of text pasted from email.
Word 'Compare Documents'Tracked-change view of two .docx files.Requires Word and real files; formatting noise can drown real edits.
ToolZone Diff CheckerPaste two texts, get a line-level added/removed view locally.Plain text only — it does not diff binary or richly formatted documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I compare code files?

Yes — paste the contents of both files. Comparison is line-based, the same unit git and most code review tools use.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. The comparison runs in JavaScript in your browser, so confidential contracts and source code never leave your device.
