Tip formula

A tip is a percentage of the bill. After calculating the tip, add it to the bill and divide by the number of people splitting the check.

Example: $45 bill, 18% tip, 2 people

The tip is 45 * 18 / 100 = 8.10. The total is 53.10. Split between two people, each person pays 26.55.

When to round

For fast table math, rounding up to the nearest whole dollar keeps the split simple. For expense reports, keep exact cents so the receipt and reimbursement match.
